Before or after dinner, you can head over into Selva's Martini Bar, which is usually packed on Saturday nights. Their ceviche is incredible-same with their drinks. Selva has incredible food-it's Peruvian and their little slogan is "where food meets art", which is very appropriate. It's surrounded by Two Senioritas, a fun Mexican restaurant, Cru, an amazing wine bistro, The Grape, Sarasota News and Books, which is a cute little bookshop/cafe GREAT for people watching outside, beautiful condos, including a brand new one called 1350 Main which definitely has some trendy new residents, and more, so you're really going to see a lot of interesting people coming, going, and walking by. Sarasota can be very different from Tampa-in good ways-but our downtown is starting to resemble and smaller and calmer South Tampa and our Rosemary District reminds me of Tampa's SoHo. I see that you're from Tampa, as well so you know we have many amazing restaurants and a great nightlife to offer up there. I'm actually a college senior right now at USF, so I live in Tampa, too (during the year, though I'm currently spending the summer in Sarasota and I visit frequently), so I know which spots in Sarasota are trendy, fun and good for people watching. The explosion of hip new restaurants, bars and lounges open until 2 a.m., fun events, and more have really contributed to Sarasota's growth-not to mention the gorgeous new hotels, condos, attractions, and our ever-so-popular beaches. Of course, it's a small town that is known as a great place to retire, but we have a younger crowd coming here either for vacationing, breaks from college, or settling down. Sarasota IS becoming an increasingly trendy town.
